Spring Salon

In the tradition of spirited French gatherings, we’re bringing together artisans, intellectuals, and creatives to foster new ideas and make memories while enjoying our new public spaces and café offerings at our espresso bar. Join us each weekend in April at our Spring Salon, a series of programs and events designed to inspire artful conversation. All programming is free after museum admission.

Saturday, April 6 | 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. | Photography Studio | Learning & Engagement Center, ground floor
Join imagenfotografi, a creative agency, for an afternoon of spring-inspired family portrait-making. Come ready to strike a pose with your loved ones for timeless portraits you can retrieve online.

Sunday, April 7 | 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. | Collaborative Portrait | Learning & Engagement Center, ground floor
Add your mark to a collaborative super-sized portrait project designed to bring together individuals and art lovers from communities throughout Philadelphia.

Saturday, April 13 | 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. | Workshop: Crochet Yarn Bomb | Learning & Engagement Center, ground floor
Help yarn bomb the columns in our new Learning & Engagement Center with Nicole Nikolich, a Crochet Installation Artist from Lace in the Moon. This workshop is for all ages and levels of experience.

Sunday, April 14 | 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. | Make-and-Take: Embroidered Tote | Learning & Engagement Center, ground floor
Join Lea Saccomanno, textile artist of Sippin’ and Stichin,’ to hand embroider spring motifs on a small canvas tote. This make-and-take workshop is for all ages and levels of experience.

Saturday, April 20 | 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. | Workshop: Screenprint Florals | Learning & Engagement Center, ground floor
Join Fleisher Art Memorial for a flower-powered drop-in family art-making activity. Roll up your sleeves and create a print inspired by flowers found in the museum’s collection. After experimenting with screenprinting, use a selection of drawing tools to transform your floral artwork into something marvelously colorful. This workshop is for all ages and levels of experience.

Sunday, April 21 | 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. | Collecting, Gathering, and Curating Americana: A Conversation with Michael Diaz-Griffith | Learning & Engagement Center, ground floor
Join Philadelphia designer Barbara Eberlein and Alexandra Kirtley, the museum’s Montgomery-Garvan Curator of American Decorative Arts, as they host Michael Diaz-Griffith, the Director of the Design Leadership Network, for a provocative conversation about collecting art, designing interiors, visiting art shows, and the role of museums within today’s visually exciting world. Their talk stems from the many ideas and experiences Michael put forth in his recently published book The New Antiquarians. A book signing will follow the talk. Books will be available for purchase onsite.

Saturday, April 27 | 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. | Workshop: Monoprint Florals | Learning & Engagement Center, ground floor
Join Fleisher Art Memorial for a drop-in family art-making activity inspired by the shapes and colors found in the floral works of art in the museum’s collection. Experiment with monoprinting using everyday materials before using pencil and marker to create a super-layered floral triumph.

Join former Philadelphia Eagle, collector, and philanthropist, Malcom Jenkins, for a signing of his recently released book, What Winners Won't Tell You: Lessons from a Legendary Defender. Books available for purchase onsite.
