Funerary Procession

On view in gallery 235, second floor

This complete set of Ming dynasty funerary procession figures is a unique addition that fills one of the few gaps in the Museum's tomb sculpture holdings. It represents a typical funerary procession for a high-ranking member of the Chinese aristocracy during the sixteenth century. The lead-glazed procession consists of a horse, a palanquin, and eight attendants, with one female holding a rectangular package. The figures are wearing loose, long sleeved robes of green, amber, and cream.
