Learning from Asian Art: China is the third of three sets of teaching resources to be developed by the Division of Education at the Philadelphia Museum of Art featuring objects from the Museum's fine collections of Asian art. Other sets focus on Japanese and Korean art. All three teaching kits are made possible by a generous grant from The Freeman Foundation of New York and Stowe, Vermont.

Producing these materials has involved input from a large number of the Museum staff, whose generous knowledge, advice, and expertise substantially added to the quality and accuracy of the language, information, and activities provided on the back of each reproduction and in this resource book. Special thanks to Dr. Felice Fischer,The Luther W. Brady Curator of Japanese Art and Curator of East Asian Art, and Marla Shoemaker, Senior Curator of Education, for their thoughtful review of these materials. Ping Foong, Staff Lecturer and Asian Specialist in the Division of Education, wrote a large part of the text in the kit. The Department of Editorial and Graphic Design has provided editing expertise, created elegant layouts, and coordinated the production of the project.

Great thanks are extended to my colleagues within the Division of Education for their ideas, inspiration, guidance, and support in this endeavor.

Ah-Young Kim
Freeman Foundation, Asian Arts Fellow
