Designed for teachers of grades pre-K-2, this two-part workshop introduces creative ways that art, food, and literacy can come together to create engaging experiences for young learners.

Part 1 of 2: Inspired by picture books and the Museum's collection, the first session focuses on age-appropriate, object-based approaches to looking at and teaching art through stories and storytelling. Educators will participate in gallery activities and discussions, as well as learn strategies for developing meaningful studio art projects for the classroom.

Part 2 of 2 (hosted by Free Library of Philadelphia's Culinary Literacy Center): Meet with children's librarians and early literacy experts, and learn how to use picture books to explore science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM). Spend the afternoon fully immersed in hands-on cooking strategies in the Culinary Literacy Center's commercial-grade kitchen classroom. Learn how cooking supports early literacy and experiment with ways to incorporate cooking in your classroom. Walk away inspired with age-appropriate lessons, books, and ideas that bring together food, art, and literacy.

10 NJ or PA hours​. You must attend both days to receive professional development credit.

Join the Park House Guides to tour the East Terrace for an informative and fun hour as they explore the magnificent architecture and outdoor sculpture of the Museum.
