Family & Children's Programs

Let your creativity soar at the Philadelphia Museum of Art! Explore a wide range of interactive programs designed for families with children ages 3–12. From large scale Special Family Events to intimate gallery tours, families can discover the world of art together.

Every Day This Summer: Art Splash

From June 27 through September 4, all Family Programs are part of Art Splash, with daily gallery explorations, studio art creations, and imaginative play inspired by the wildlife photographs of Michael Nichols. Museum admission for kids twelve and under is always free.

Family Programs

The Philadelphia Museum of Art offers plenty of Family Programs that allow children and parents to learn, create, and most important, have fun together. All programs and events are free. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Visitor Services Desk.

Sensory-Friendly Mornings
Location: Dorrance Galleries
Free tickets required after Museum admission
Space is limited. To book your spot, call 215-684-7606.

Designed for families with children on the autism spectrum or who have other sensory sensitivities. Specially trained Museum staff lead all activities.

Family Art Workshop
Location: South Terrace Education Classroom B
Kids ages 6–12 with an adult
Paid reservations required
$20 ($16 members) per person- both grownup and child must pay to attend

Roll up your sleeves and enjoy creative time as a family. Workshops include gallery conversations followed by collaborative art-making in the studios. Each class is offered twice and explores a wide variety of media.

        Get in touch with your wild side while experimenting with paint. Find inspiration in paintings of animals and in the wild life photography of Michael Nichols, then paint your own wild masterpiece in the studio

Best for grown-ups with babies

Parents and caregivers with babes in tow are always welcome in our galleries, and we're making it a bit easier for you with our stroller tours. If the baby fusses don't fret -- you'll be in good company.


Family Festivals

Family Festivals showcase local and nationally recognized performance groups for an experience that combines the magic of the visual and performing arts. The Balcony Studio features art projects inspired by artwork in the Museum's collections.

Family Festival: Move Like an Animal

Slither, crawl, or hop to movement workshops led by Almanac Dance Circus Theatre. Sketch and pose like an animal with Dr Sketchy’s Anti-Art School.

Children's Art Classes

Museum teachers guide children through fun and informative experiences in the galleries followed by hands-on projects in the studios. Children in Ages 3-5 classes must be accompanied by an adult (who attends free) for the gallery portion of the class. All children must be toilet trained. No experience is necessary, and all materials are supplied. Class size is limited. Pre-registration is required, and fees are nonrefundable unless the Museum cancels the class.

The fall session of art classes begin the week of September 26th, 2017. You may register your child by phone or in person at the Museum’s Visitor Services desks. Registration for the fall semester for new and returning students begins August 15th at 10:00 a.m. To register by phone, call (215) 235-SHOW (7469). A nonrefundable service charge for each space reserved is added to all phone orders (member $2.50, nonmember $3.50). There is no service charge for reservations made at the Museum.
