The Philadelphia Museum of Art is proud to join with some of the area's most distinguished musicians for a series of concerts and performances inspired by the Museum's collections and current exhibitions. Come and experience the wonderful connection between the visual and performing arts.

All concerts and performances held in Van Pelt Auditorium unless noted. Programs are not recommended for children under 7 years of age. Programs and artists are subject to change. Seating is unreserved. Concert and performance ticket prices do not include Museum admission..

You may purchase tickets by phone or in person at the Museum's Visitor Services desks. To register by phone, call (215) 235-SHOW (7469). A nonrefundable service charge for each space reserved is added to all phone orders (Members $2.50, Nonmembers $3.50). There is no service charge for reservations made in the Museum.

Music in the Galleries with The Curtis Institute of Music
Music in the Galleries is generously supported by Cooke & Bieler, LP.

Join us for these informal concerts in the galleries by the gifted young musicians of the Curtis Institute of Music. Prior to each concert, we look at a work of art and interpret it within the context of the performance. For all ages - older children are welcome.

  • Benjamin Beilman, violin, and Yekwon Sunwoo, piano
    • Sunday, March 18, 2012, Starts at 3:00 p.m.
      Violinist Benjamin Beilman, winner of the prestigious 2010 Montreal International Music Competition and the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, has been gaining attention for his “impeccable” playing and “elegant flair.” Only twenty-one years old, he has already debuted with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Radio France, and the Indianapolis Symphony. Making his Philadelphia Chamber Music Society debut, Beilman will perform music by Mozart, Strauss, Prokofiev, and Jenö Hubay.
  • David Starobin, guitar
    • Sunday, April 1, 2012, Starts at 3:00 p.m.
      Back by popular demand, guitar virtuoso David Starobin returns to the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society with a program of staples of classical guitar repertoire by Fernando Sor and Giulio Regondi as well as several compositions written in the last decade by Poul Ruders, William Bland, and Starobin himself. Recently Soundboard, a magazine published by the Guitar Foundation of America, raved, “Starobin is arguably the most influential American classical guitarist of the twentieth century.”

Members of the acclaimed Philadelphia Orchestra join with the Museum to explore the intrinsic link between the visual arts and music. Each of the concerts includes commentary by the musicians and may be related to either the collections or a special exhibition.

  • Musique d’Elegance: French Music for Piano and Flute
    • Sunday, May 6, 2012, Starts at 2:30 p.m.
      Cynthia Raim (piano) and David Cramer (flute) present a concert featuring major French works for solo piano and solo flute. The players will also join forces to perform pieces together, including a significant duo sonata and shorter combined work.
