The Christmas Story in Art

The PMA has hundreds of works of art from the 14th through the 18th centuries depicting scenes from the Christmas Story, such as The Annunciation, The Nativity, The Adoration of the Three Kings or Magi, and especially The Virgin Mary and the Christ Child. This entertaining tour reveals Medieval and Renaissance understandings of the Christmas story, highlighting religious beliefs and artistic practices unique to the times, shedding light on traditions still practiced today.
