Philadelphia Museum of Art educators and graduate students from Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania bring objects from the permanent collection to life during a 45-minute conversation in one of the Museum’s two hundred galleries.

The stories of relationships between fathers and their sons are as old and varied as both humanity and art. While many were loving and supportive, others were confrontational or worse. This tour explores a wide range of father-son relationships in the art of several galleries, sometimes as the subjects and sometimes as the artists.

 

Tours gather in Museum's West Entrance
Please note that tours are weather dependant and will not take place in excessive heat or rain. Moderate walking is involved.

Take a stroll around the Museum and into the new Anne d’Harnoncourt Memorial Sculpture Garden to explore some of its outdoor artwork and landscape views. This one-acre site hosts two gallery areas, which currently contain the stone sculptures of Isamu Noguchi. The plantings along the lawns and terraces contain trees, shrubs, and perennials that support local wildlife and bloom at various seasons.

Through both illustrated lectures at the Museum and field trips to various sites, this course provides an in-depth look at the development of Philadelphia's Fairmount Park and the art and architecture found within. Trolley transportation for the field trips is provided; trolleys depart from and return to the Museum's West Entrance.
