Cat. 153John G. Johnson Collection, 1917
LabelOn the right panel of this diptych, or two-paneled, folding painting, Saint Jerome translates the Gospel of John from Greek to Latin. The Latin is carefully inscribed in the lower book, but the artist must have been less familiar with Greek, for the upper book contains gibberish.
