Saint Mary Magdalene

c. 1515
Bergognone (Ambrogio di Stefano da Fossano) (Italian (active Lombardy), documented 1481–1522)
The penitent Mary Magdalene anointed the feet of Christ with oil and dried them with her hair; she is, therefore, often depicted with long, flowing hair and holding an ointment jar. Bergognone portrays her with the serene naturalism that became prevalent in his later style as a result of his contact with Leonardo da Vinci.
