Enthroned Virgin and Child, with Saints John the Evangelist, Catherine of Alexandria, and Anthony Abbot, and a Saint Reading a Book

1520s
Defendente Ferrari (Italian (active Piedmont), dated works 1510–1535)
While the balanced composition and the architecture of this work reflect refinements of Italian High Renaissance art, the figures of the Virgin and child are based on a painting by Netherlandish artist Rogier van der Weyden (1399/1400–1464).
