In his early years Fyt worked in Paris, but also traveled to Italy. He specialized in flower paintings and animal and game still lifes and was tremendously successful. Fyt displays a love of luxury by combining partridges, victims of a hunt, with an exotic parrot perched amid vines and fruit.
