Saint John the Baptist in the Wilderness

Early 1480s
Biagio d'Antonio da Firenze (Italian (active Florence, Rome, and Faenza), documented 1476–1504)
John the Baptist is the patron saint of Florence, and each year on June 24 festive celebrations are held in his honor. Here, on this right wing of a diptych (a two-paneled painting that could be folded), he is shown in the wilderness wearing a camel-hair shirt.
