Saint Eligius's Mother Told of Her Son's Future Fame
Section of an altarpiece; companion panels are in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (A732); a private collection, England; and an unknown location
Attributed to Martino da Verona (Martino di Alberto), Italian, died 1412, Verona
The room on the right shows the basic elements of a late medieval bedroom: a hooded fireplace and complicated structure for a bed with its own walls, shelf, and bench chests. The sleeping figure on the left appears in a similar structure, itself set in an alcove.
