Modern and Contemporary Art Location of a Circle 1973 Sol LeWitt, American, 1928 - 2007 Wall drawing (black pencil and black crayon over latex paint) * Skylit Atrium, Perelman Building, first floor 2000-95-1 125th Anniversary Acquisition. Gift of Henry S. McNeil, Jr., and the artist, 2000 |
LabelSol LeWitt develops the concept of his drawings and brings in teams of other people to execute the work. Breaking down the notion of a singular, irreplaceable art object, the drawings are transferable and yet never the same, as they must adjust to fit new architectural spaces. They ask us to reevaluate traditional notions of permanence and impermanence, construction and destruction, ownership and execution.* Works in the collection are moved off view for many different reasons. Although gallery locations on the website are updated regularly, there is no guarantee that this object will be on display on the day of your visit. |
