Sita Devi is one of the original group of Brahmin women painters from Jitwarpur and is considered one of the preeminent Madhubani artists. She has received national awards in India and often worked as artist-in-residence at the National Handicrafts and Handlooms Museum in New Delhi. Sita Devi uses large figures and bright colors in her illustrations of traditional narrative scenes, such as this episode from the epic Ramayana (Legend of Lord Rama).
