Ewer

1875
Decoration designed and executed by Thomas John Bott, Jr. (English, 1854–1932) Made by the Worcester Royal Porcelain Company, Ltd., Worcester, England (1751–present)
The decoration on this ewer imitates the style and grisaille effect, but not the materials or technique, of sixteenth-century Limoges copper-ground enamels. The enamel style was imitated beginning in the 1840s at the Sèvres porcelain factory and subsequently at a number of other European factories, including Worcester. This piece was described by the Centennial judges as "in the style of the sixteenth century Limoges enamels, with band of a triumphal procession, and plateau with arabesque decoration and masks in 'cinque-cento' style."
