One of the outstanding ensembles in Schiaparelli’s Commedia dell’arte collection was a variation on the harlequin patchwork motif. The sleeves of this ruby velvet jacket are embroidered in silk, forming diamonds of Shocking pink, yellow, and violet. The jacket was worn over a dress that dipped low in the back and had a high, asymmetric drape at the front. The ensemble was completed by ruby velvet gloves that laced with black velvet and by yellow satin bootees that were scalloped around the top. Dilys E. Blum, from Shocking! The Art and Fashion of Elsa Schiaparelli (2003), p. 198.
