This boldly colored silk crêpe evening gown printed with carousel animals was accessorized with a matching “circus tent” veil that could be worn in several ways—over one shoulder, draped over the head, or worn over both shoulders as a short cape. The motifs printed on the gown include childlike drawings of circus wagons, swans, rabbits, trains, and children riding carousel horses. Schiaparelli’s boldly patterned crêpe evening gown with matching “circus tent” veil for summer 1938 made a brief appearance in the British spy movie Ten Days in Paris, starring Rex Harrison. The motif was featured in Schiaparelli’s February 1937 collection for summer, showing up on beachwear and on a white organdy evening gown that was one of eighteen garments Wallis Simpson ordered from the designer before her marriage to the Duke of Windsor in June.
