The tiered sleeves associated with clowns’ costumes--done in bright pink satin encrusted with silver thread, pearls, and blue brilliants--set off this evening gown in midnight blue Amoroso crêpe. The long, slim silhouette is accentuated by the mannequin’s hair, arranged high on the head. Pink satin gloves completed the ensemble, which was worn by the socialite Madame Arturo Lopez-Willshaw to a Paris premiere, as reported in British Vogue in May 1938. Dilys E. Blum, from Shocking!
