Pieced Quilt

1950s
Carrie Bonivul Thomas , or her mother or aunt (American, 1919–2007)
This quilt by an African American maker from Mississippi was made from printed cotton flour sacking. Its pieced strip construction and use of squares within squares, a variation of the traditional Log Cabin design known as the Housetop pattern, create a highly syncopated visual composition.
