"Superbox" Cupboard

Designed 1966
Designed by Ettore Sottsass (Italian (born Austria), 1917–2007) Made by Abet Laminati S.p.A., Italy for Poltronova S.p.A., Pistoia, Italy
This cupboard, its strong geometric shape and bold, striped laminated exterior inspired by the work of Ettore Sottsass's pop art contemporaries, was a precursor to the radical output of the design collective Memphis, founded by Sottsass in 1981. Memphis's use of decorative plastic laminates, eye-catching color, and totem-like forms owed much to these early experimental designs for Italian furniture maker Poltronova.
