Crystal Ball on Waves

Late 1800s to early 1900s
Artist/maker unknown, Chinese
As early as the Song dynasty (960–1279), rock crystal carvings and vessels were appreciated and collected in China, the best pieces being lustrous and in perfect condition. This flawless crystal ball is displayed on a silver stand in the form of breaking waves that was created in Japan during the first half of the twentieth century.
