LabelBonnie Cashin pioneered many influential clothing concepts, including layered dressing and loose-fitting, unstructured garments. Made of fuzzy mohair, one of the designer’s favorite fabrics, and outlined in her signature leather binding, this short coat illustrates Cashin’s innovative, modern style, from the unusual closure at the neck—a gold chain and pin—to the bottom fringe. The coat beautifully shows the designer’s use of minimal seaming: a single pattern piece forms the wide back and sleeves, while a narrow belt controls some of the front fullness. |
