Dragon Jar

17th century
Artist/maker unknown, Korean
The potter achieved the globular shape of this vessel by luting the top and the bottom pieces together once they were made separately on the wheel. Jars with lively dragon decorations in iron oxide pigment, as seen on this example, were especially favored in Korea during the seventeenth century.
