Woman's Coat

1923
Label Louis et Cie, Paris
This coat is probably made out of a large shawl, and its cut shows the large pattern to advantage. The shawl’s center creates a dramatic back; there are no side seams; and the fabric from above the shoulder seams was used to make the sleeves and cuffs. Although located in Paris, Louis et Cie was run by the Louis Katzman Model Company in New York. The label stresses the authenticity of the company’s imported wraps, coats, and sportswear with the French name and address and states that the garment is a modeles deposés (registered design).
