Blankets have been produced in the isolated Huamachuco area of Peru since pre-Inca times; the type that includes this colorful example apparently developed in the early twentieth century from colonial prototypes. Inscribed with the owner's name, this blanket features both geometric and figural motifs, along with animals inspired by cross-stitch patterns in popular magazines, including ducks, donkeys, and cats wearing boots.
