Jephthah Met by His Daughter

This scene, derived from the Old Testament book of Judges, shows the painful greeting of the soldier Jephthah and his daughter. Jephthah had vowed to God that if he was victorious in battle he would offer as a sacrifice whoever came out of his house first to meet him.
