For more than a decade, Jan Yager has been scavenging the streets, making art from the depressing debris of civilization and the resilient seeds of nature. The "City Flotsam" series is built from crack vials, crack vial caps, cigarette butts, bullet casings, and other unsettling objects testifying to urban dissipation.

Looking for hope to offset the feelings of mourning in the "City Flotsam" series, Yager launched a counter-series of "City Flora" pieces that celebrate the perseverance of nature in an urban setting. The crown of this series, American Tiara: Invasive Species, illustrates the beauty of "weeds" new to North America.
