Velocità astratta + rumore (Abstract Speed + Noise)

1913-1914
Giacomo Balla (Italian, 1871–1958)
In 1913-14 Balla formulated his principal idea of representing speed through lines of force, his works moving increasingly toward abstraction. This small work is one of a group of similar paintings and works on paper from those years with titles combining words like "speed," "dynamism," "light," "space," and "abstraction," exploring motion through swirling lines and color.
