Mancini expanded his repertoire in the 1880s by portraying young females in domestic interiors that convey a sense of languid isolation and quiet contemplation. Over time his method of painting evolved onto new ground where the careful modeling of faces and hands typically contrasts with a loose, painterly handling of clothing and surroundings. Mancini viewed fabric, in particular, as a still-life element and treated it as an arena for displaying his skills as a flamboyant draftsman and colorist.
