Langston Hughes (1902-1967) was one of the most sought-after and published young poets of the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s-1930s. This rare woodcut portrait of Hughes by Aaron Douglas, long regarded as the leading artist of that period, perfectly captures the youthful exuberance and poetic spirit of this halcyon period in African American arts and letters.
