Family of the Magician

c. 1743-1750
Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (Italian (active Venice, Udine, Würzburg, and Madrid) 1696–1770)
Giovanni Battista Tiepolo's second series of etchings, Playful Fantasies, was executed in the 1740s. Here, the juxtaposition of the young woman with a child and the older, bearded man is reminiscent of images of the Holy Family.
