Woman's Coat

Mid- 1980s
Designed by Yohji Yamamoto (Japanese, born 1943) Sold by Alan Bilzerian, Boston
Since he burst onto the international scene in the early 1980s as part of the new wave of Japanese designers, Yohji Yamamoto has developed an aesthetic that has changed the rules of fashion. His exploration of idiosyncratic ways of dressing includes the rejection of overtly sexualized feminine styles. Loose-fitting silhouettes allow for an investigation of volume around the body, as seen in this sculptural coat that juxtaposes Yamamoto’s signature black with a stark ivory front.
