This scroll, perhaps a commission, is painted on silk, an expensive material that the potential patron would have supplied. Kinkoku's summer landscape expresses his characteristic style. He emphasizes the humidity of a rainy summer day by softening the tree branches and the rock formations, and slowing the current of the flowing water. The rays of the sun are caught amid the sheets of rain, while the scholar in his hut awaits the feast of fish being caught in the stream.
