LabelAndrews is well known not only as a painter and printmaker, but also for his activism in the 1960s and 1970s; he was instrumental in the organization of the Black Emergency Cultural Coalition (BECC), which campaigned for better representation of black artists and curators in mainstream art institutions. Andrews’s narrative, often enigmatic works frequently address social issues, suffering, and injustice. |
