Woman's Ensemble: Coat, Top, Skirt, Belt, Socks, Sandals, Necklace, and Bracelet

Spring 2009
Label Burberry Prorsum, England (founded 1998) Designed by Christopher Bailey (English, born 1971)
The Latin word prorsum, meaning "forward," which has appeared on Burberry's equestrian trademark since 1901, was chosen as the name for the venerable British company's contemporary line. Burberry Prorsum designs often tap the company's rich heritage, referencing especially the iconic trench coat, which Burberry has made for over a hundred years. Here, designer Christopher Bailey has reinvented the trench coat in glittering metallic floral, and teamed it with a delicate top and skirt. The complete ensemble offsets any fragility with a heavy metal necklace and bracelet, gathered leather belt, and high-heeled platform sandals worn over scrunched black socks.
