Cup

c. 1875
Fukagawa Eizaemon VIII (Japanese, 1833–1889)
These pieces are unusual because they retain the original paper label of their manufacturer and exhibitor at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition of 1876, "Koransha." Koransha was a firm established in 1875 by Fukagawa. He later became president of the company in partnership with Fukami Suminosuke and Tsuji Katsuzo, porcelain manufacturers of Arita wares, and Tezuka Kamenosuke.
