1903-918The Dr. Robert H. Lamborn Collection, 1903
LabelThis eighteenth-century portrait of the Abbess Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (1648-1695) is, despite its condition, among the most significant works in the Museum's Robert H. Lamborn Collection because of the renown of Sister Juana as one of the most important early poets of the Americas. The inscription identifies the image as a "faithful" copy after a portrait "that she herself made and painted with her own hand."
