LabelA refined stoneware, like that from which this bottle is made, was developed at Meissen by the alchemist Johann Friedrich Böttger before he discovered how to make porcelain. The shape of the bottle is based on a Chinese form of about 1700 known as a kendi.* Works in the collection are moved off view for many different reasons. Although gallery locations on the website are updated regularly, there is no guarantee that this object will be on display on the day of your visit. |
