Bottle with Lid

c. 1710-1713
Made by the Meissen porcelain factory, Meissen, Germany (1710–present)
A refined stoneware, like that from which this bottle is made, was developed at Meissen by the alchemist Johann Friedrich Böttger before he discovered how to make porcelain. The shape of the bottle is based on a Chinese form of about 1700 known as a kendi.
