LabelBilled as "Elegant Toilets for Ladies in the latest Paris fashion," the wardrobe of this paper doll is drawn directly from contemporary French fashion plates. The day outfit and evening dress seen here show the styles and accessories popular during the early 1860s. Dresses featured pointed bodices and full sleeves to help diminish waist size, while horizontal trimming emphasized skirt breadth; the yellow evening dress illustrates how a puffed overskirt and lace flounces could add further volume. To accommodate full skirts, loose fitting mantles were preferred for outdoor wear. |
