Wearing a crown with an image of the seated Buddha, Guanyin sits at ease above a serpentine dragon and mythical feline animal. His form and lustrous three-colored glaze characterize figures made by the famous Qiao family of artists. Ink inscriptions on the sides record the names of the donor and the Buddhist temple in northern Shanxi province where devotees of Guanyin would pray for an auspicious rebirth for themselves and their ancestors.
