Shawl or Sash Fragment [Top and Bottom]

Mid- 18th century
Artist/maker unknown, Indian
This shawl fragment shows an early design of the boteh - a sort of teardrop shape with an overhanging, pendant tip - featuring flower-filled botehs that contain small vases with bouquets of flowers. Its shape, size, and the plain ground surrounding the boteh motif indicate a mid-eighteenth-century date for the fragment.
