Prints, Drawings, and Photographs Laziness 1896 Félix Vallotton, Swiss, 1865 - 1925 Woodcut Currently not on view 1941-8-136 Purchased with the John D. McIlhenny Fund, 1941 |
LabelVallotton belonged to a group of late-nineteenth-century painters interested in color and pattern who became enthusiastic printmakers. Unlike Pierre Bonnard and Edouard Vuillard-members of the group who made their reputation with color prints-Vallotton favored the black-and-white woodcut. Here he sets a languid nude against a background of patterned fabrics and pillows. |
