This rug makes an interesting contrast to the other “bird” rugs in the Museum’s collection. It was not made in the city of Ushak, which was the usual production center for Turkish bird rugs, with consequent reinterpretations of design. For example, the floral motifs between the leaves (or ”birds”) are inverted and shortened. Also, the row of halved leaves and rosettes normally found at the ends of the central field is missing.
