LabelThis moon crystal was formerly in the Imperial Collection of the emperor Qianlong. Its base is the rabbit of Chinese legend who lives in the moon and concocts the elixir of immortality. The poem on its surface--written by Xie Zhuang (421-466) and incised by the famous artist Zhao Pingchong--tells the story of an ancient ruler who, when parted from his beloved, found solace in gazing at the moon.Social Tags [?]hare [x] mythology [x] poetry [x] pre-daoist mythology [x] quartz [x] rabbit [x] taoism [x] [Add Your Own Tags]* Works in the collection are moved off view for many different reasons.
