Perspective Drawing for "The Pair-Oared Shell"

1872
Thomas Eakins (American, 1844–1916)
This drawing is one of two surviving preparatory drawings for the painting The Pair-Oared Shell, in which Eakins's methodical, analytical approach to his work can be seen. In this one, Eakins calculated the relative sizes and positions of the shell, the oars, and the bridge pier.
