Female Nude

1910
Pablo Ruiz y Picasso (Spanish, 1881–1973)
Picasso’s austere Cubist pictures of 1910 consist of configurations of geometric lines, planes, and silhouettes. Yet they are not completely abstract. This work, if studied closely, portrays a female figure seated at a table and holding a glass—all seemingly made of the same shimmering, ethereal substance.
