Label:
A founding member and the first secretary of the Society of Independent Artists, Covert was Walter Arensberg's first cousin and a frequent chess partner of Duchamp. While this still life composition seems rather traditional in format, its enigmatic title and thumbprint signature bespeak the artist's Dada sensibility.
